Came across this today:
Sort of a cheating entry to the wildcard challenge - a flowy, stringy instrumental. I tried for most of the month to write a song based on this post, found by clicking the randomizer. It kept not sounding right, so finally I stripped out the lyrics, and this is what’s left.
The entire […]

Tristan told us about:
Mostly an experiment in banjo, trying to apply the clawhammer style to a more bluegrass style song. I’m not a big fan of bluegrass (too fast, flashy, too impersonal) but felt like screwing around with a couple train-a-comin drum loops and some acoustic instruments. I’m satisfied with the sound, and think the […]

Adrian emailed us this:
The lazy cracker, banjo-infused version of the Jeffersons theme song. I dreamed of this arrangement a couple weeks ago and finally got around to recording it tonight. It’s a few clicks slower than I imagined, due mostly to my unwilling right-hand fingers, and it’s missing the sweet jug-blown bass part, but […]

This is an interesting post:
I suppose this is the equivalent of my last yay new instrument song. Banjo, ‘lectric guitar, ‘lectric drums, singin. Oh, and the drums are Hydrogen with a 70s vintage drumkit. I’m recording my home-stuff in Ardour nowadays, which, with JACK, plays very nicely with the drum synth. It does crash randomly, […]

Tracy sends us:
A repetitive, driving song featuring my first foray into recording piano-ery. It also has a jammy rockout outro (rockoutro?). Lyrics:
my little place is a conversation starter
makes all ensuing talk much harder
my little mom is a complicate mother
she bobs up and down like any other
I know now not to pick a fight
with a talkless […]

Interesting:
This is a solo banjo tune I’ve been working on recently, in the Old Time Clawhammer style. It always brings thoughts of waking up at 6:45pm, hung over, and realizing you only have 15 minutes to get ready and walk a mile to the liquor store. I’ve been an Clawhammer banjo player for many years. […]
